Every respectable organization has its own website and also its own email server. It rarely uses third party email services. Running an email server is no easy task, especially if we are talking about large companies, with numerous employees. Besides that, it's not enough running an email server, it also has to be secure and to be able to block unwanted and malicious emails that can contain viruses. An email server that can suit a medium to large company is Mercury Mail Transport System. It's a mail server that supports all major Internet mail-related protocols including SMTP , POP3 and IMAP.

The installation process is one of the most simple tasks. It takes less than a minute. After a few clicks, the software is installed and ready to be used. At this point, the user must indicate the domain parameter to be used. The user list is manually administered. There is no limit in numbers of users declared. A single directory holds users storage locations, so, to do a backup, just copy the "mail" directory and it will copy all users' data. Mercury Mail Transport System can run on all 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows from Windows 98 and Windows NT4 to the latest Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008.

The interface is intuitive but still, it shouldn't be used by a beginner who hasn't got any knowledge about email servers, as there is a lot of configuring to do. The interface features windows which monitor some aspects of the email server, like current connections or incoming and outgoing jobs. The software has an enormous variety of configurations. Attention should be paid for configuring the email filtering rules, as the email server security depends on this.

Mercury Mail Transport System can easily be integrated with the email client from the same company, Pegasus Mail. Every protocol has its own window that monitors in real time every connection established using that certain protocol.

Pros

It allows configuring rules for filtering unwanted email addresses and can also block suspicious senders. It also supports numerous email protocols.

Cons

Beginners may have trouble configuring the program, especially if they don't have any knowledge about email servers. Mercury Mail Transport System is a great email server that can be used successfully in a medium to large company.
